Kishi followed after into the dark hole of the portal and felt the ground change although she did not move, every contour and ridged morphed and flattened themselves against her feet before ridging their spines high.

"Here we go!" Kurobara grinned as she felt the power surge through her. The walls- not walls, but some kind of "substance" rippled. The ground shook and their surroundings flashed millions of different images, too real to be just a picture. Voices echoed and swirled around, invading her senses. Suddenly the motion stopped and the "walls" materialized.
The trio now stood before a grand building, crafted out of brick. The windows glowed with warm light and the sounds of clinking glass and silverware, and chattering voices and tinkling laughter. A delicious aroma wafted toward Kurobara; she sniffed and then sighed. The sign hung above the huge oak door read: Bread n' Butter.
Kurobara grabbed the ornate handle and swung the door open. "Come in," she invited. Kishi and Menisiti followed suit as Kurobara walked in, greeted by the beautiful golden glow of chandeliers and the smell of fine meals.
Suddenly, a young girl stopped serving her customers and rushed over to Kurobara. Her light brown hair flew as she threw her arms around Kurobara and cried, "I haven't seen you in so long!" Then she saw Kishi and remarked, "You brought friends, too! I'm Shiroi, but you can call me Shii-chan. You're new, so I'll give you a dessert, on the house! Though I hope Boss won't be angry with me."
Kurobara smiled and said, "Shii, you better get to work. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble. I'll go find a table, I know this place well enough."

Rose decided that she was going to go to the check in counter to get some information 'cause she didn't know about these places. She slowly walked up to the counter and flattened her ears against her head.
"Hello, would you like a room?" asked the lady at the counter with a cheerful smile.
"Um... Yes?" mumble Rose, not knowing what to do.
The smile faded from the lady at the counter's face, obviously unsure about Rose's question-answer. "Okay then. Your room is room 2206" she told Rose, handing her the key to her room and a brochure with information on it. Rose stumbled back, and slumped into a chair beside the wall. She looked down at the items that the lady had given her. The key had her room's number engraved into it, and the brochure had the amount of money per night to stay and a map of the town. Rose sank back into her chair and thought how it would have a better idea to just stay in the forest without anything to worry about at all.

Menisti's eyes scanned the room, the whole scene so unfamiliar to her. People. So many, and all of them laughing. And happy, not chained and sad. The room glowed with happiness, the world bubbled and radiated with the feeling. Happy. The thoughts tried themselves upon her brain softly. Glass tears swarmed near her eyes. It was all so unreal to Minh. All she had ever known was the pain, the sadness, the hurt, the constant jingling of her chains.
"This is what you called finished work!", the voice hurled itself at her. Large muscular hands threw her weightless body at the other wall. She slammed into the black rocks and crumbled to the bottom of the shaft. A slave. She whimpered,
"It...it was fine a second ago", the last words fading toward the darkness.
"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR LIES!" The long jutted tip of his boot slammed in between her ribs. She curled over into a ball, gasping blood. The red dribbled between her lips and fell with her tears in small red drops to the indifferent floor. The jingling of her chains rattled the room. Her hands flung over her ears. Her eyes were shut as the boot slammed at her head without stopping. Her hand tried to deflect and shield her head, but they were crushed between her skull and his foot.
A different memory swarmed her brain.
Minh could still hear the echo of jingling rattling chains. Unseen, but always weighing down. The distant slave project was far away. Her fingers were touched gently by the healing woman's as she banded each. Each finger's bones had been removed. The lady had picked out fourteen sticks and enchanted each to be hard, durable, sturdy, and have magical abilities. Each finger, replaced with sticks. her left hand would never be the same again
Kishi smiled happily and sypathetically and pulled Minh and followed Kurobara to their table. Silent happy tears falling from Minh's eyes.

Kurobara led the two through a maze of filled tables, weaving expertly past countless customers and waiters. Finally she came to a stop at a plush booth in front of a window.
Kurobara gestured, motioning for them to sit first. "This is my regular table every time I come here." A waiter had already filled glasses with cool water and a basket of steaming cheese biscuits. "Help yourself- I'm sure you're hungry."
She settled into the booth along with Kishi and Menisti. Kurobara flipped open a menu and scanned the choices while biting into a biscuit. "Mmm...delicious," she said, savoring the tasty flavor. She noticed Menisiti's slightly swollen eyes, and promptly offered a fresh biscuit to her. Then Kurobara pushed the basket toward Kishi.
Shiroi approached their table and held a little writing pad, donning a friendly smile. "Ready to order?" she inquired. "And anything other than water for you all?"

Kishi shook her head no and munched happily on the biscuit. The aroma of butter wafted through her teeth and while no one noticed, she took five of the biscuits and snuck the babies into her pouch. Water would be fine. She reached into her pouch and thumbed around for a stone. "Lemonade please", Menisti replied biting softly into the biscuits. She saw Minh's hands flexing under the Table as memories flowed into her. There were scars in their lives to be healed, but here were some too deep to mend. But sometimes, those cuts are th ones that bring the conciseness of being a part of life. The water clanked as it arrived and she dropped he lemon rock in. Kishi's eye followed its particles into the nothingness of the water to be embraced and loved. The straw bent weakly as the sweet sour water swished around her mouth and froze her bones. The love of the lemon for the water flowing through her throat.

Rose walked up the hallway, scanning the room numbers as she walked past, and finally found room 2206. She had trouble sticking the key into the hole. It's okay Rose, just calm down and you'll be able to figure out how to get into the room in no time. She thought. When she finally heard the clicking sound of the key she turned the knob of the door and walked in. Rose saw a beautifully made bed, a night stand with lamp on it and a desk with a notepad and pen on it. Rose was confused. She didn't know what to do. She walked over to the desk, took the pen and the notepad, put it in her pouch, and left the room. Rose sped down the hallway to the lady at the counter and said, "I'm not staying here anymore." She slammed the key to her room onto the counter. "But-" the lady at the counter said but Rose had already shut the door behind her and left the inn.
Rose had told herself that she would start trying mew thing but if the next new thing that she did didn't work then she was giving up. Rose took out the brochure that the lady had given her and looked at the places to eat. There were places with weird names and fast-food witch Rose new she wouldn't like. She finally chose a place called Bread n' Butter.
There was a small, red star labeling where the inn was. So according to the map I should go this way and then that way and then I guess I should be at the corner where it is. thought Rose.
So she trotted all the way to Bread n' Butter not feeling the slightest bit tired at all. She turned the cold handle of the door and went inside. It smelled of things that she had never smelled before, the only smell that she recognized was the bread. Rose went to sit down in a lonely booth in a corner. The wind from the spinning fans above blew Rose's hood off, but every time she put it back on it would blow off again so Rose gave up on putting it back on.

Kurobara hungrily wolfed down a hot biscuit as her green tea frappuccino was placed in front of her. She sipped the drink and savored the delicious flavor.
As she gulped down another biscuit, she remarked, "Excuse me- I haven't had anything to eat in a few days. I must look like a wolf to you." Then Kurobara smirked- she wasn't the only wolf here, noting Menisti's presence.
She opened her mouth and said, "So this godslayer's quest-"
But she never finished. The whole restaurant shook with a great force. All the lights dimmed and customers cried out in shock. Windows burst open as well as the huge front doors, flooding the main room with shadowy forms. They had a life of their own, snaking between legs and over the tables, along the walls and floating through the air.
All of the sudden, the shadowy tendrils simultaneously stopped swirling. They all shot towards one direction at lightning speed- towards Kurobara.
Master- we've found her.
Kurobara felt their minds, gleeful and evil, with the satisfaction of completing a job. She felt around their minds and was blasted with bloody thoughts of violence- and a tint of the most pure evil she had ever felt- not even as terrible as the Queen- but there was only one person it could've been- yes, she'd definetley felt that mana- before it was corrupted. That person was gone. There was no way it could've been him.
She cried out as they laced their threads around her arms, wrists, neck and body. So they were more material than shadows- they were dark matter, she assessed. They constricted Kurobara in her moment of guard let down. Kurobara squeezed her eyes and her whole form glowed with mana as power bursted through every pore of her body, blowing away bits of the dark matter. But then they regenerated and tied around her twice as tight, dragging her away.
Kurobara wiggled her fingers in an attempt to grab her stellar keys. "Xin Long! I need you!"
This time he did not appear in the form of a boy, but a smaller shaped Zodiac dragon. It growled and tore at the dark matter; it roared and scorched it with his flames. But even during his rampage of destruction, the dark matter began to consume his body, too. Kurobara threw up a charmed stone in the air, and it released a flash of blinding light, momentarily stunning the dark tendrils. "Menisti! Kishi! Backup here!?"

Menisti's shape writhed and tore into a beasts, and in one mouthful she tore at the darkness. Kishi stepped next to Kurobara making sure she was beset by Kurobara. Her slender fingers grabbed Kai and Ava from their sleeve and both hands held each in their grasp. Both daggers glowed in the darkness, the light like sin to the skin of the dark pelts. Kishi hacked fervently at the darkness and threw Ava at Kurobara.
"I have a spell, help me fend them for a second", her head already buzzing with numbers and symbols. Kai and Ava's ability to slice through virtually anything and with the two beasts Minh and Xin Long by their sides there was just enough time.

The lights had suddenly went out as costumers screamed and random people shouted franticly. What's all this about? thought Rose Isn't this just like a thunderstorm or something? But her opinion suddenly changed as she saw darkness swallowing up someone in a corner and a memory suddenly flashed back to her.
"WHY DID YOU BRING A HUMAN BACK TO OUR DEN?!?!" demanded an old fox as the fox that had rolled Rose to the den lay her down.
"I can't possibly just ignore a wounded creature. Besides she looks half fox..." said the fox.
Rose was only three years old when she had finally opened her eyes to see the foxes that would always take care of her.
Rose thought for a moment thinking about how the foxes took her in because she had been wounded and hurt, and then raced to where the person was being swallowed up by darkness to try and help free her. When Rose had flexed her claws outwards she saw that other people were helping too, so she began to rip the darkness off, just like the foxes helped her as a wounded creature.

Kurobara leaped into the air and simultaneously grabbed the glowing blade. As she came back down she plunged the blade into the mass of darkness. The thing emitted a squelch as it was pierced.
It obviously wasn't attacking any civilians, but the strange thing was that it seemed so intent on capturing Kurobara, not even bothering to harm Xin Long and Menisiti- rather, just fending them off. Strange...now, what would it do if she ran out the doors?
"Kishi, get ready! Let's move this thing somewhere safer!" Kurobara catapulted out the open window and slid onto the grass. She heard sinister slithering of the dark matter following her into the front courtyard. "And to think we hadn't even got to the main course yet, "she muttered irritably.
"Ah, but wouldn't you much rather fight me than have the finest three-course meal?" snickered a nauseatingly familiar voice. Kurobara stood rigid; she could feel his smirk in the dark of the night.
"I thought you were dead,"Kurobara growled.
The figure stepped into the moonlight, illuminating his flowing blonde hair and tall stature. He spread his arms and said, "Maybe once, but not anymore- I'm a god." To illustrate his point, the wind blasted around, but not at her, showing his infinite control. Slabs of rock folded out of the ground, and trees were uprooted with a flick of his finger. Out of the sky appeared a huge sphinx that disappeared the minute it appeared. Then suddenly, it all stopped.
"And I will rule the humans,"he whispered tremulously. Suddenly he snapped his head towards Kurobara. They locked eyes and then Kurobara tried to leap towards him, except she didn't move a bone. She looked at her feet and saw something strange- their shadows were connected.
He stepped forward, and her shadow forced her to copy. Kurobara tried to resist, but her body mimicked every movement of his. He grabbed her chin and stared into her eyes. His dark green eyes swirled dangerously as if trying to mesmerize her. "Join me and I will spare you. You know that you are superior to those filthy humans- and the other six gods will grant you powers like us too."
Kurobara gritted her teeth and spat out, "Gods!? You yourself, Adrian, are hardly a god! Corrupt that you are, you can't see that humans are essential, no matter how many mistakes they may make."
Adrian's hand lowered and clenched around her throat and growled, "If you won't join me, then I suppose I'll have to make you." His beautiful features contorted into an angry frown.
"I'd rather die than do that! And so would Aya!" Kurobara shouted.
Adrian squeezed her throat tighter and hissed, "Aya's dead, and I'm not the weak Adrian you knew anymore."
Kurobara said weakly, "The Adrian I thought I knew wouldn't try to kill his best friend, would he?"
Suddenly he let go and leaped back into the shadows. Kurobara couldn't see his features clearly, but she saw mixed emotions of frustration, sadness, anger, but most of all regret. "I can't go back, and you know that, too," he said- almost remorsefully.
Once again Kurobara had let her guard down, and the mass of dark tendrils began to grab at her again. Luckily she had still clutched the blade Ava, slashing at the inky threads.
"Kishi! I can't buy you any more time! GO!"

Kishi heard Minh growl,
"GO!? WHO DO YOU THINK WE ARE?! WE'RE GODSLAYERS". Kishi's eyes opened from her trance. The spell was ready. Her fingers shaped out invisible lines in the air, a golden circle encompetated the area her fingers danced. Voices long forgotten murmured along with her,
"Trillion stars of Carspotenasia, I am the descendant of the ruler of the stars. Hear my words in the murmur of The Sorrows. Rise" A snap happened in the outer space, she felt control and oblivion and power rise into her veins,
"My body is your soul and my ears and eyes are your heart. Feel my command. Cry." A piercing sound whimpered and wound around the Earth. Minh changed form into a Phoenix, fire rushing from her feather tips and crisping the grass. She sang triumphantly as the last words of the spell touched Kishi's tongue.
"I am your ruler. Stars of Sin. Stars of Radiance. Stars of Court. Stars of the Exiled. Stars of Repent. Stars of Murana. Orapio Corencia! SHINE!"
The brightest luminecne shined the world. Everyone was temporarily blinded. Kishi didn't bother opening her eyes. The light shriveled up the shadows. The god Kurobara was talking to stood upright yet hindered, in front of them. All shadows were gone. Kishi collapsed, Minh sat on her shoulder and watched Kurobara.

The person that Rose was trying to help suddenly sprang out the window, throwing Rose backwards onto the floor as a blinding light flashed outside and spreading. Rose jumped out of the window, landing on her hands. She had still had her eyes closed and was telling where she was by smell. She sniffed the air and it had smelled like the person she was trying to free. Rose opened her eyes and saw somebody collapsed on the grass and a red bird sitting at her shoulder.

Adrian held a bemused expression in his eyes. "So you brought...friends." He looked around and casually said, "Hmm...and my minions, expelled for now."
Kurobara narrowed her eyes. She knew he was smart. He always was, continuously beating her at every academic, every logic-related thing- even the simplest game of hide-and-seek he would fill with clever tactics.
Then Adrian's eyes hardened. "I'll spare you- but only on a whim. Remember that you would have died, had I not given you a chance."
He disappeared in a column of dark smoke. His whisper drifted through the air as his form dissolved. "If you want to find me...I'll be at Rambandoil." His last words held an air of mystery. "Don't get too distracted..." Then a dark chuckle sounded through the air.
Kurobara turned to Kishi and Menisiti, then frowned. "Rambandoil. He was constantly babbling about games and amusement parks and roller coaster. And Adrian's always loved playing games. Dangerous, sneaky, clever games. He'll leave clues, for sure. But we gotta be careful- I know him well enough to say he'll try to snare us in a trap."
Kurobara turned her head to the sky. "So Rambandoil it is?"

Kishi picked up the request. The words had shriveled up and new words had appeared.
"Remember the woman behind you", Kishi's head swiveled. A fox like girl stood behind her. Kishi smiled.
"We'll go now, wherever. Our team is right here", she flashed the request, it read, "Rose, Kishi, Menisti, and Kurobara". Kishi shrugged and pulled Rose over,
"This girl, is coming with us"
